On May 21-22, the International Energy Agency will hold its 9th Global Energy Efficiency Conference in Nairobi. As the conference approaches, companies around the world face the daunting challenge of doubling their energy efficiency by 2030 to meet the targets set by COP28 to reduce emissions and lower energy costs. However, a recent report by the Energy Efficiency Initiative shows that while many businesses are optimistic and willing to invest in energy efficiency, there are still some obstacles that need to be addressed, including a lack of professional resources (33%).

In order to solve this problem and help enterprises take the first step in energy saving, ABB has launched an online energy saving calculator that allows enterprises to easily access relevant data information based on the energy efficiency of motor drive systems. Customers only need to input basic information such as the number of motors, the number of operating hours and the average operating power to estimate the energy-saving and emission reduction effect and the return on investment period. The online energy efficiency calculator is a simplified version of the deep energy efficiency audit used by ABB experts to conduct comprehensive research, and the algorithm behind it is the same.

Using this calculator, companies can initially estimate the potential energy savings and cost savings of upgrading pump and fan systems that were originally driven by power frequency operating (DOL) motors to drive frequency converters (VSD). The calculator is primarily suitable for low-voltage motors with an energy efficiency rating of IE3 and below, and can estimate the energy savings that can be achieved by upgrading to the latest motor and drive technology (IE5 synchronous reluctance motor + inverter package solution) to optimize energy efficiency.

With data on potential energy savings, the next step is to conduct a full energy efficiency audit. At that time, ABB experts will collect on-site data and give specific energy-saving recommendations for the specific situation of the operator. After implementing the energy efficiency audit recommendations, the final step is to secure the company's investment through a customized service agreement to ensure that the motors and drives continue to operate efficiently and reliably throughout their life cycle.
