The IC697CPU771 is a central processing unit (CPU) module for the 90-70 series platform of programmable logic controllers (PLCS). The CPU module was previously manufactured by GE Fanuc Automation, but was recently acquired by Emerson Automation. CPU modules, such as the IC697CPU771, are an important part of the PLC component because the CPU is responsible for processing the user logic to achieve the desired automation. The IC697CPU771 is equipped with an 80C186 microprocessor with a processing speed of 12 MHz and a Boolean execution speed of 0.4 microseconds per Boolean instruction. The processor is designed to accommodate discrete inputs and outputs of up to 2KB, and likewise, it supports analog inputs and outputs of up to 8K. The IC697CPU771 is downloaded with user programs developed using Logicmaster 90-70 programming software, VersaPro Professional Edition and Proficy Machine Edition Logic Developer PLC Professional Edition. These packages provide an intuitive user interface and provide a user-friendly programming environment. The IC697CPU771 supports the installation of an additional 512 KB of extended memory. It also supports password-controlled access to limit the accessibility of the user's program content. It is equipped with three (3) status LED indicators indicating that the module is normal, operating, and currently enabled output. The CPU module supports the use of I/O and smart option modules on the rack-mount backplanes (IC697CHS750, 782, 783, 790, 791) in the VME C.1 standard format. It is also compatible with all IC697 LAN interface modules, coprocessor modules, bus controllers and communication modules. The IC697CPU771 processor supports all discrete and analog I/O modules of the IC697 family.

The IC697CPU771 module is an expandable CPU module for GE Fanuc 90-70 series PLCS that can support program and data memory up to 512 KB of CMOS RAM by connecting an expansion memory board. CMOS extended memory boards are available in 64, 128, 256, or 512 KB RAM capacity options. The lithium battery (catalog number IC697ACC701) is located on the main CPU board. Installing a CMOS RAM board on the IC697CPU771 module requires the module to be initialized using a programmer. Installation personnel must refer to the installation manual to ensure correct installation. The GE Fanuc 90-70 IC697CPU771 module uses an 80C186 microprocessor with a clock rate of 12 MHZ. Supports up to 8,000 analog I/ OS and a total of 2,000 arbitrary hybrid I/ OS. The IC697CPU771 module is programmed using Windows or MS-DOs-based software. Windows software is compatible with Windows 95 or Windows NT operating systems. Communication between the system running the configuration software and the IC697CPU771 module can be done via Ethernet or an integrated serial port. The 15-pin D-connector provides connectivity to RS-485 compatible serial ports. A serial connection can be made from the serial port on the IC697CPU771 module to the serial port on the programming computer via the RS-422/RS-485 to RS-232 converter or the RS-232 to RS-422 microconverter.
