The 8280-415 is a Woodward governor digital speed control with analog load distribution, designed for use with reciprocating engines in generator set service. The device is released in Woodward's 723PLUS series, a series of controllers that offer a range of features and functions to suit a variety of applications. The model 8280-415 is a high-voltage model with an operating voltage of 90 to 150 Vdc. In addition, other identical low pressure models are available, as well as low and high pressure models designed for low speed engines at 130 rpm or lower.

The 8280-415 is suitable for applications where flexible coupling torsion needs to be monitored, as the two-speed signal input supports magnetic pickups (MPUs) and proximity switches. Other inputs on this 723PLUS controller include:

One LON channel supports Woodward LinkNet input/output nodes to monitor functionality, and three serial channels provide some options for control interfaces. To monitor and program the 723PLUS 8280-415, you can use the Watch Window PC interface or a handheld programmer via serial port J1 (port J2 is for Watch Window only). The Modbus master device (such as the HMI) can be connected through port J3. This HMI can be used to issue control commands and monitor the parameters of the control and engine.
