The Emerson/MOTOROLA MVME162 is a dual-height VME module with the MC68LC040 or optional MC68040 microprocessor. The MC68040 microprocessor has a floating-point coprocessor; the MC68LC040 does not. The MVME162 has 1MB, 4MB or 8MB parity-protected DRAM; 512KB SRAM (with spare battery); TOD clock (with spare battery); An optional LAN Ethernet transceiver interface with DMA, two serial ports (EIA-232-D and EIA-232-D/EIA-530); 6 tick timers with watchdog timer; Optional SCSI bus interface with DMA; VMEbus interface (local bus to VMEbus/VMEbus to local bus, with A16/A24/A32, D8/D16/D32 bus width and VMEbus system controller).
Features:
The central processing unit (CPU) that acts as the control system.
Process control algorithms, execute automation programs, and communicate with other devices on the network.
Features such as analog and digital input/output (I/O) channels may be included to connect to sensors and actuators during the process.
Provides a platform for running application-specific control software.
Applications:
The MVME162-020A was used in various industrial automation applications before it was discontinued. Here are some examples:
Factory automation: Control and monitor production lines, robots and machine tools.
Process control systems: Monitor and control variables in industrial processes such as chemical plants, power generation, or oil and gas production.
Building Automation systems: Centralized control of HVAC systems, lighting, and other building automation functions (which may be in older systems).
