The IC660BLM506 is a terminal resistor used with the Genius I/O Block module. This is a particularly needed accessory component when the last node of the Genius I/O network is the Genius I/O module module. Genius I/O modules are independent distributed I/O devices that can be used as both an I/O module and a communication adapter because each I/O module is installed at a different I/O density and supports a specific type of I/O. All of these are capable of exchanging I/O data via the Genius I/O protocol via the Daisy chain topology of the Genius bus. The I/O platform was previously manufactured by GE Fanuc Automation and is now part of Emerson Automation. The resistance of the IC660BLM506 is 150 ohms. The resistor can be used with prefabricated cables as it can be installed by sliding the resistor to the end of the parent cable. This forms the connection to the Genius I/O terminals and the impedance required to terminate the bus. If a redundant Genius I/O bus is being implemented and the last node is a Bus Switch module (BSM), terminating resistors can only be installed on the S1 and S2 terminals of the BSM. There is no need to install a separate terminal resistor on each bus. If the bus controller or PCIM device is the last node of the Genius I/O bus, an onboard terminal resistor must not be set, but a resistor with the appropriate value that can be installed on the serial 1 and serial 2 connectors on the bus controller (e.g. IC660BLM506). The advantage of this method is that it allows the board to be replaced without having to disconnect or interrupt the connection, since the Genius I/O bus is continuously terminated by separately mounted resistors rather than on-board terminators.
The IC660BLM506 plug is a prefabricated 150 ohm terminal plug. When the bus is terminated in the GE Fanuc Genius I/O block, the IC660BLM506 plug is installed in the serial 1 and 2 terminals. The IC660BLM506 plug weighs 2 LBS. The IC660BLM506 plug can be used with conventional bus cables and cables with preformed connectors. The IC660BLM506 plug should be connected to the female end of the cable. There are usually 4 types of wiring that can be found in industrial installation systems. PLC systems using Genius I-O devices may use a mix of control cabling, analog cabling, and communication cabling, especially in confined Spaces. The Genius serial bus uses computer-grade twisted pair data cables. The bus is built through a Daisy chain where Serial 1 and Serial 2 lines tap in the middle of the bus. The bus connection needs to be consistent because the signal is polarized. The cable Shield is divided into sections, one end of each Shield is DC grounded (Shield Oot), and the other end is connected to a small capacitor (shield In). This cable segment is designed to break the extended ground loop path. Capacitor terminating helps reduce the common noise caused by high-frequency picking, while preventing high amplitude ground loop current in the cable shield at low frequencies.
