The GE Fanuc IC693CHS399 mainboard is a 5-slot remote mainboard of the GE series 90-30. The remote backboard is the same size, uses the same type of power supply, and supports the same I/O devices and custom option modules as the GE Fanuc Series 90-30 expansion backboard. The 90-30 Series remote and expansion backboards can be connected to a single CPU backboard to form a complete programmable logic controller or PLC system. The IC693CHS399 remote backboard must be connected to a personal computer or backboard with a CPU to run. It can't stand alone. Some remote baseboards have 10 slots, but the IC693CHS399 remote baseboard has only 5 slots (not including the leftmost slot, which is only used to host the power module). These five slots support I/O modules.
Up to 700 feet of cable can be used to connect all backboards in a PLC system that uses a remote backboard, such as the IC693CHS399 5-slot remote backboard. The remote backboard is equipped with a rack number selector DIP switch that can be used to select which rack in the PLC system the remote backboard will be connected to. The IC693CHS399 remote backboard is connected to the CPU backboard, expansion backboard, and other remote backboards through its 25-pin female expansion connector (type D connector). The connector is labeled as an expansion connector to distinguish it from the five I/O slots and is located on the right edge of the remote baseboard.
