The MVI56E-MNET is a Modbus TCP/IP client/server Enhanced network interface module manufactured by Allen-Bradley incluse partner company ProSoft technology. This module enables the ControlLogix system to act as a MODBUS host or MODBUS client over a TCP/IP connection.

MVI56E-MNET is backward compatible with earlier versions of MVI56E-MNET. This backward compatibility simplifies migration, eliminating the need to change or modify existing relay ladder logic or the current configuration of existing legacy modules. It supports CIP connectivity, allowing remote configuration and diagnostic access via the 1756-ENBT, 1756-gent Ethernet communication adapter, and 1756-CNB ControlNet bridge modules across multiple Ethernet I/P and ControlNet networks. In addition, the module supports the ProSoft Discovery Service (PDS), which is used to automatically locate the MVI56E module on an Ethernet network and specify a temporary IP address.

The device withstands a shock of 30 g when in operation and 50 g when not in operation. It also has a vibration of 5 g at 10 to 150 Hz. MVI56E-MNET has a relative humidity of 5% to 95% and is non-condensing. The MVI56E-MNET is equipped with a lithium vanadium pentoxide battery for backing up the real-time clock and also for backing up the CMOS battery. The battery is expected to last the life of the module, and the module should be connected to the power supply for at least 24 hours before the battery is fully charged. For a fully charged battery, the battery will provide enough CMOS and real-time clock backup power for 21 days. MVI56E-MNET supports LED rolling diagnostic display with 4-character alphanumeric display. The display provides standard English for status information and displays alarm data, processor and network communication status. The MVI56E-MNET also features a Personalization module, which is an industrial compact flash memory card that stores complete configurations and Ethernet Settings.
